Northampton’s Mayor put his best foot forward when he joined our Get Up & Go-ers in Hardingstone for their weekly strength and balance class.

Councillor Paul Joyce, the Mayor for Northampton Town Council, visited the session at the village hall this morning (Thursday).

Get Up & Go is part of a prevention programme providing strength and balance sessions for older, frailer adults to improve their mobility and confidence. We hold our classes across Hardingstone, Hunsbury, Milton Malsor and Wootton in collaboration with Northamptonshire Sport.

By boosting their ability to avoid potential falls, people will remain fitter and healthier for longer, while pressure will also be taken off the NHS.

It was lovely of the Mayor to take the time to not only join in the session, but also stop to chat and have cake with everyone afterwards. We even roped his driver, Doug, into the fun!

Whether he’s unbalanced while approached by someone as he performs his Mayoral duties or gets knocked from behind while meeting other dignitaries, our Mayor now knows what to do to keep his balance and avoid falling over!

Our Get Up & Go sessions are so important to boost the confidence and fitness of our older residents, allowing them to continue getting out and about independently.

It was fantastic to see our Mayor backing this work.
