“It’s been good to explore places in Northamptonshire that I haven’t been to before and It’s been surprising how many miles I did.”

That was just some of the lovely feedback we received from Stepper Faye Wilson, who has recently completed our ’70-somethings’ Jubilee virtual challenge.

Faye has walked 70 miles this month to earn one of our special medals to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee.

During her walks Faye took some fantastic pictures, and this is what she had to say about her experience:

“I have recently got to over 70 miles, including another two places I’ve never been to before.

“I walked to Victoria Park, where I was looking for the tree that the mayor planted but I didn’t see it. The park was bigger than I thought it’d be, but it was good to walk by the Nene.

“Then I also went to Vintage Retreat, which is big and so interesting. In a few weeks I might go to Millers Meadow.

“I read online in a magazine called The Northamptonian that there’s art which I hadn’t seen in the museum and art gallery when I last visited. So when I was in town shopping, I looked and found the exhibition upstairs.

“It is an interesting exhibition, including art by an artist who I found out lived near me. There is also a great display at The Vintage Guru.

“It’s been good to explore places in Northamptonshire that I haven’t been to before, and on one Sunday morning walk I discovered that next to St Peter &  St Paul Church there is a message which I think is for the Queen, saying: ‘thank you for your service’.

“I have walked further when out walking to work and I saw the Knife Angel. Also, when walking in town while shopping I walked to see the Postern Gate, which is what remains of the Northampton Castle.

“There are sculptures nearby; St Thomas A Beckett well and sculptures on Beckets Park too.

“I walked to some shops I hadn’t been to before, Rock Bottom Discount and Click Antiques And Vintage, and also I went to Abington Park, walking in areas I don’t usually walk.

“It’s been surprising how many miles I’ve managed to do on each walk, for example over seven miles on one day.”

We hope everyone’s experiences were as interested and varied as Faye’s were!
