It was fantastic to bring our Shoe Tours back to Northampton town centre for 2025.
Last Sunday, our first walking tour of the year took place with a lovely group of people joining me to chat about the area’s industrial past, and visit places like the famed Tricker’s factory and Northampton Museum.
I always love putting these tours on as it gives me a chance to celebrate the history of the town and those people, from factory owners and philanthropists to workers, whose houses and streets formed the basis of today’s infrastructure and who shaped and were shaped by the shoe revolution.
We all know Northampton sometimes gets a bad rap, but millions of people across the world love the likes of Tricker’s, Crockett and Jones, or Church’s. As well as talking about the history of those shoe giants, I also like to use the tours as a chance to show off some of the architecture – just look up! – history and heritage that the town boasts.
Northampton is full of history dating back more than 1,000 years, and you only have to look at our Market Square, the Guildhall or All Saints’ Church to realise just how much we have on offer.
By putting on running and walking Shoe Tours, we can cater for people of all fitness levels and abilities. Yes, Step Forward With Lewis is a fitness club which started as a running group, but my overall wish is to help everyone be active and keep moving – the level they do that at doesn’t matter.
We currently have three more walking tours already scheduled for this year, but will be looking to put on more walking and running events in 2025. Details of our existing tours are below – I hope to see you soon.
Our tours start at 10:00am outside Northampton Museum in Guildhall Road in the town centre on the following dates:
Sunday 23rd March, Walking tour
Sunday 13th April, Walking tour
Sunday 11th May, Walking tour
Sunday 8th June, Walking tour
